VILNIUS BOOK FAIR 2020

Getting to know the real Jonas Mekas was the goal of the organizers of the highly popular annual Vilnius Book Fair.The Vilnius Book Fair that starts this Thursday and will feature

Jonas Mekas – the man and his work.

What kind of a person was John Mekas really like? Pip Chodorov (USA/France) and Anne König (Germany), longtime fellow travelers with Jonas, will share their reflections.
They will be interviewed by Gražina Michnevičiūtė, who was close to Jonas and his family in New York during the last years of his life.

There will also be two screenings dedicated to the memory of Jonas Mekas. Dr. Ramūnas Čičelis, who published a monograph about the work of Jonas Mekas this year, will present a documentary film Three Days in Paris – Answers Without Questions (2019) by Henrikas Gulbinas, one of Lithuania’s first video artists. The film features retrospectives from Lithuanian films and highlights Jonas’ meetings and musings on film and creative freedom at La Cinémathèque Française in 2018.

The second screening will be Jonas’ film Excerpts from the Life of a Happy Man (2012). It will be presented by the eminent Lithuanian documentary filmmaker Audrius Stonys.
