The exhibition Childrens’ World Has Closed. (Because the Letter “L” has Ended) was part of the defense of Monika Ivaškaitė’s Master’s
thesis. The young artist, relying mostly on concepts propagated by the artistic realism of painters such as Luc Tuymans, Elizabeth Peyton, Karen Kilimnik, delves into topics related to childhood and even infantilism. In turn, these topics affirm and with a specific thin, almost pastel layer painting technique, balances on the boundary of decorative, teenage drawing aesthetics. Ivaškaitė talks about “infantilism” not only through her subjects, but in part by recreating a “naive”, teen-like manner of painting.
