The Jonas Mekas Visual Arts Center presents The Ministry of Fluxus. Fragments.
The photo and video exhibition surveys the life and times of the Ministry of Fluxus in Vilnius and in Kaunas through documentary material from various events, exhibitions and demonstrations. Two new original pieces of sculpture are included: Danas Aleksas’ Danas Aleksas and The Chair by Tomas Martisauskas.
The Ministry of Fluxus was a project initiated by then Mayor of Vilnius Arturas Zuokas and thrived for four years in Vilnius and Kaunas. The ministries both evoked strong reactions. Some were entranced by them and some horrified, but it is fair to say that the initiative was an exceptional one both politically and culturally. The work that took place in both Ministries of Fluxus was extremely active and intense. Countless art and non-art projects, exhibitions, events, seminars, international performance festivals, etc. of all genres, types and quality took place in them. The exhibition includes original video reports from the Ministry of Fluxus by filmmaker Evaldas Jansas.
Ministry of Fluxus. Fragments. is a preliminary one. It displays a very small part of the life of the Ministries of Fluxus in Vilnius and Kaunas and the documentation of it. A larger exhibition is planned in September for Fluxus Week.
The exhibition opened on July 23 and can be viewed until August 10.
